Abstract
Isosafrole (I) and the styrenes (V) undergo cycloaddition reaction with isopropylidene methylenemalonate (II) to give the trioxaoctalinones (III) and (VI).

Isosafrole (I) and the styrenes (V) undergo cycloaddition reaction with isopropylidene methylenemalonate (II) to give the trioxaoctalinones (III) and (VI). Subsequent hydrolysis produces the lactones (IV) and (VII) or the pentenoic acid (VIII). (Yields partly given in g).
