Abstract

From cyclopentadiene the cis diol (IV) is now obtained in 4 steps (total yield 10%) and accordingly (Va) in 5 steps (total yield 5%).

From cyclopentadiene the cis diol (IV) is now obtained in 4 steps (total yield 10%) and accordingly (Va) in 5 steps (total yield 5%). Swern ox. is found to give best results in the oxidations of diols (I), (III), and (IV) to diones (VI), (Vb), and (Va), respectively.
