ChemInform Abstract: Transition-Metal-Promoted Reactions of Boron Hydrides. Part 9. Cp*Ir-Catalyzed Reactions of Polyhedral Boranes and Acetylenes.
Abstract
The complex ((C5Me5)IrCl2)2 in the presence of a proton sponge is found to catalyze reactions of pentaborane(9) (I) with terminal and internal acetylenes (II), resulting in the formation of the alkenylpentaboranes (III).
ChemInform Abstract
The complex ((C5Me5)IrCl2)2 in the presence of a proton sponge is found to catalyze reactions of pentaborane(9) (I) with terminal and internal acetylenes (II), resulting in the formation of the alkenylpentaboranes (III). Reaction rates in excess of 30 catalyst turnovers/h are found and respresent the fastest turnover rates reported for this type of transformation. The system under the conditions A) also catalyzes the reactions of alkynes with several polyhedral boranes previously found to be unreactive. Thus, B6H10, 1,2-C2B10H12, and 1,7-C2B10H12 in reaction with propyne yield the compounds (IV), (V), and (VI), respectively.
