Abstract

The phenols (I), (VIII), and (XI) are converted into the phenoxyethyl phenyl ketones (III), (IX), and (XII) which undergo intramolecular photocyclization to give the tetrahydrobenzoxepinols (IV), (V), (X), and (XIII).

ChemInform Abstract

The phenols (I), (VIII), and (XI) are converted into the phenoxyethyl phenyl ketones (III), (IX), and (XII) which undergo intramolecular photocyclization to give the tetrahydrobenzoxepinols (IV), (V), (X), and (XIII). Dehydration of the stereoisomers (IVb) and (Vb) yields the dihydrobenzoxepinols (VI) and (VII).
