Abstract

The methylthiomethyl sulfone (II) is coupled with the alkoxyacetates (I) to give the alkoxyacetyl sulfones (III) which react with the alcohols (IV) in the presence of bases, producing the acetals (V) and (II).

ChemInform Abstract

The methylthiomethyl sulfone (II) is coupled with the alkoxyacetates (I) to give the alkoxyacetyl sulfones (III) which react with the alcohols (IV) in the presence of bases, producing the acetals (V) and (II). The α-sulfonyl ketone (VI) yields (II) and the carboxylate (VII) under analogous conditions.
