Abstract

The reaction of (I) (literature synthesis optimized) with :CBr2 gives the trans adduct (IVa).

The reaction of (I) (literature synthesis optimized) with :CBr2 gives the trans adduct (IVa). It can be transformed into methanesulfonate (IVc) which on treatment with Li alkyl compounds leads to (VI) + (VII) instead of the desired bromooctabisvalene (VIII).
