Abstract

Photooxygenation of cyclohexene sulfide (I) yields the thiirane oxide (III) via the persulfoxide (II).

ChemInform Abstract

Photooxygenation of cyclohexene sulfide (I) yields the thiirane oxide (III) via the persulfoxide (II). The oxidation of olefins such as (IV) to epoxides (V) or of sulfides such as (VI) to sulfoxides (VII) is achieved when the photooxygenation of (I) is carried out in the presence of MeOH (VIII); the peroxysulfenic acid (IX), a methanolysis product of (II), is assumed to be the oxidizing species.
