Abstract

Methyl tricyanoethylenecarboxylate (III), prepared from tetracyanoethylene (I) and the cyanoacetate (II), is subjected to cycloaddition reactions with the olefinic compounds (IV) and (VIII), yielding the diastereomeric cyclobutanes (V) and (VI) or (IX) and (X), together with the pyran derivatives (VII) or (XI).
