ChemInform Abstract

The dimethylsilyl-Ta compounds (I) and (II) are obtained by reaction of the hydrides (III), (V), and (VI) with hexamethylsilacyclopropane (IV) according to the scheme. The presence of PMe3 or other Lewis bases such as THF improves dramatically the selectivity of the silylene insertion. Less than 5% octamethyl-1,2-disilacyclobutane is detected as a by-product. A proposed mechanism for dimethylsilylene transfer with and without added PMe3 is described.
