Abstract

When trans-stilbene (I) is allowed to react with 1-methylthianium tribromide (II) in the solid state, meso-1,2-dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane (III) is formed.

ChemInform Abstract

When trans-stilbene (I) is allowed to react with 1-methylthianium tribromide (II) in the solid state, meso-1,2-dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane (III) is formed. Similar results are obtained using the tribromides (V) - (VIII). The progress of the reaction is examined by means of IR-spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.
