ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of the aldehydes (I) with (formylmethyl)triphenylarsonium bromide (II), prepared from triphenylarsine and bromoacetaldehyde, gives the E-α,β-unsaturated aldehydes (III) which are converted into the insect sex pheromones (Vb), (VIII), and (XI) via Wittig reaction.
