Abstract

Grignard reaction of vanillin acetate (I) with the halides (II) and dehydration of the carbinols thus obtained yields the title compound apocynin (IIIa) (found also to be a constituent of Apocyanum species) together with its derivatives (IIIb)-(IIIf) (no yields given).

ChemInform Abstract

Grignard reaction of vanillin acetate (I) with the halides (II) and dehydration of the carbinols thus obtained yields the title compound apocynin (IIIa) (found also to be a constituent of Apocyanum species) together with its derivatives (IIIb)-(IIIf) (no yields given). Pharmacological tests of (III) for choleretic activity show enhancement up to (IIId) whereas (IIIe) and (IIIf) are much less active than (IIIa).
