Abstract
The isomeric furocycloheptatrienones (I) and (V) are allowed to react with the organolithium compounds (II).

The isomeric furocycloheptatrienones (I) and (V) are allowed to react with the organolithium compounds (II). Subsequent treatment with perchloric acid yields the furotropylium salts (IV) or (VI). The trimethyl derivatives (IVa) and (VIa) are reduced with lithium aluminum hydride to give the furocycloheptatrienes (VII) - (IX) or (X) and (XI).
