Abstract

The spirocyclic acetals (IV) and (V) (pheromone type of Andrena bees) and exo-brevicomin (XIII) (pheromone of Scolytidae beetles) are synthesized as racemates via radical additions to divinyl ketone (II) and methyl vinyl ketone (X), respectively.

The spirocyclic acetals (IV) and (V) (pheromone type of Andrena bees) and exo-brevicomin (XIII) (pheromone of Scolytidae beetles) are synthesized as racemates via radical additions to divinyl ketone (II) and methyl vinyl ketone (X), respectively. Reduction of the ketone groups during the reactions with Bu3SnH is not observed.
