ChemInform Abstract

When a mixture of 2 M HNO3, 1 M NaNO3 and 0.1 M Na2C4O4 (neutralized to pH 5) is covered with 1 M AgNO3 after gelatinizing colorless and yellow crystals of Ag squarates grow. Both forms decompose to metallic silver upon heating. The yellow modification has space group C2/c with Z = 8 while the colorless crystals are of too poor quality for X-ray analysis.
