ChemInform Abstract

A three-step procedure leads from the naphthalenediol (I) to the aldehyde (III). This key intermediate undergoes side-chain introduction via a Grignard reaction and subsequent oxidation and demethylation reactions to give the title compound (XII). Similarly, the dihydroderivative (XIII) is prepared from (III).
