ChemInform Abstract

The dyes (III), obtained from the pyrazolinone (I) and the oxidized photographic developer (II), are decolorized with excess (I) by the formation of the bispyrazolone (IV) in two steps. The dyes (IIIa) are more reactive than (IIIb). The order of reaction is increased by changing the substituent from H to CH3, but decreased in hydroxyethyl derivatives compared to the ethyl compounds. Analogously, effectiveness and direction of the influence of solvent (such as CH3OH, 2-propanol, butyl acetate, or DMSO) depends on the substituent.
