The bathochromic shifts produced on the LMCT spectra of the title complexes [Fe(CN)5L]2- (L: 4-(dimethyamino)pyridine, benzimidazole) are investigated.

The bathochromic shifts produced on the LMCT spectra of the title complexes [Fe(CN)5L]2- (L: 4-(dimethyamino)pyridine, benzimidazole) are investigated. Greater shifts per mole are observed for the M"+/[Fe(CN)5L]2′ ion pairs than their [(Ru(NH3)5L]3+/X′ counterparts when M" is a divalent (Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) or trivalent (AI, Sc) cation whereas comparable shifts are achieved with monovalent Cations (Li, Na, K) vs. the′ monovalent X′ anions.
