Abstract

The magnetic properties of Copper(II) halide salts are influenced greatly by the chemistry of the halide ion.

ChemInform Abstract

The magnetic properties of Copper(II) halide salts are influenced greatly by the chemistry of the halide ion. The existence of lower-lying CT states in the bromide salts enhances the antiferromagnetic contribution to the exchange as compared to the Chloride salts. The ligand spin-orbit coupling influences the spin anisotropy of the Systems. Thus, despite their similar structural characteristics, the magnetic behavior of Copper(II) Chloride and bromide salts are greatly modified by variations in the electronic structure of the halide ions.
