ChemInform Abstract

The α-keto esters (I) react with SP4 in the presence of catalytic amounts of HF - from SF4 and H2O - to form the products (II) by conversion of the ester carbonyl group to a CF; group. The β-keto esters (III), (V) and (X) react with SP4 in anhydrous HF to form the Compounds (IV), (VI) and (XI) ;esulting from the conversion of the β-carbonyl group to the CF; group. The reaction of the γ-trifluoromethyl-β-keto ester (V) with SP4 in the absence of HF affords a complex mixture of the products (VI)-(IX). Their formation is discussed in detail.
