Solubility parameters of amine-crosslinked aromatic epoxies

Abstract

For six epoxide–amine systems, based on mixtures of two different aromatic epoxides with four various aromatic amines, the solubility parameters δ were determined by calculation, by using several literature sources and molar additive laws, and experimentally from equilibrium concentrations of 25 solvents, by using bidimensional solubility maps. δ values ranging from 20 to 27 MPa1/2 were found. Their variations with the epoxide and amine structure were discussed. The crosslink density was found to have a neglectable effect on the solvent absorption compared to interaction parameters.
