Adolescence and Youth
Abstract
This entry provides a brief history of theory on adolescence and youth, recognizing themes in contemporary research regarding the phase in which transition to adulthood appears. The article discusses adolescents' sociological, psychological, and cultural routes from developmental psychology to life-course sociology, and how these are connected with cultural and ecological research perspectives on human development within childhood to adolescence transitions. The focus of the entry is the sociological and cultural aspects of adolescence and, due to overlapping interests in contemporary research of adolescence, there is a need for synthesis and integration.
