Achieved Status
Abstract
Achieved status refers to any status within a group or society that is attained after birth through effort or achievement. Achieved status is conventionally paired with ascribed status as two ways individuals attain status, but the line between them is not distinct. There are cultural and temporal variations in the relative importance of achieved and ascribed statuses. Ascribed status can have direct impact on achieved status and can also interact with achieved status in many domains of life.
