Summary

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on three cross-cutting matters: research, relational, and self, as well as contemplating what next for Health Professions Education Research. It presents scientific and critical realist approaches to programme evaluation. The book presents an overview of different approaches to theory, including their underlying philosophical considerations. It discusses the utility of engaging in team reflexivity to enhance research quality. The book outlines the importance of including consumers as team members to redress power imbalances. It illustrates the importance of team understandings when using diverse perspectives. While the mirror exposes the emergence of wide-ranging novel, person-centred, and imaginative research methodologies and methods as identified across the book, the crystal ball gazes forward, suggesting a technological future replete with computerised educational possibilities and big data affordances.
