Summary

Oesophageal cancer is the ninth most common cancer worldwide. The two most common histological subtypes are adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The risk factors differ for each and differing geographical regions have varying prevalence of each subtype. The diagnosis, staging and management of oesophageal malignancies are discussed along with the different operative approaches and complications of surgery.
