Summary

This chapter explains how Sara's boycott has locked Kevin out of the first-run market for matching Chinese sandals. The chapter describes the first time that he seems to be enjoying the boycott. She forces herself to be broad-minded about the matter. Kevin's embrace of the boycott takes many forms. The chapter explains how she learns something unexpected about Barbie. It also describes her fascinations toward Barbie. She has always been fascinated by Barbie and not just because her parents tried with little success to ban her from her girlhood on progressive-parenting grounds. She loved Barbie because no other doll had such great accessories. The chapter also explores the reason as to why she did not purchase the Indonesian Barbie. It further discusses how she discovers the bounty of the seashore at sunset and the allure of other people's Chinese trash on the occasion of her 17th wedding anniversary.
