This is perhaps one of the most extensive passages on suffering in the New Testament – how one should respond to it personally as a component of the transformed life. Peter makes an important distinction between suffering for Christ and suffering deservedly. Of course, his words imply serious persecution in the community, but they can also relate to general suffering experienced by everyone.
