Abstract

Anthropologists can be found in careers ranging from pop culture to politics. Their essential contributions to our understanding of who we are, how we came to be, and what our future may hold can be attributed to their shared personal traits, rigorous education and training, and application of unique knowledge and skills. In today's rapidly changing and interconnected world, gaining a deep appreciation of cultural and ethnic differences and learning how people's beliefs and practices fit into larger socioeconomic, environmental, and political processes are crucial for a twenty-first-century career. Whether working in a museum or an international health organization, anthropologists bring to the forefront our multifaceted and interdependent realities. In so doing, the impact of their work helps to diminish actions based on prejudice, ignorance, and bigotry and helps us to reimagine a shared vision for humanity.
