Abstract

Governance has become a key concept in policy making and academic debates across the social sciences. While no agreed definition exists, many authors associate governance with new processes of governing that transcend the nation-state. The concept is generally associated with reconfigurations in the exercise of authority and influence; from state to private actors, from formal to informal institutions, from the national to the transnational sphere, and from hierarchical forms of organization to networks.
