Abstract

Research in anthropology of disasters began in the middle of the twentieth century. It has been growing since, first in the Americas and later in Europe and Asia. This entry reviews its evolution, the contributions of anthropology to the field, and the current state of the art in order to show how the holistic, evolutionistic, and comparative approaches of anthropology of disasters have nourished this field of research.
