Abstract

Consultancy work in anthropology presents both opportunities and constraints. The opportunities range from the immediate field of contexts for employment and for making an active difference in the world of practical endeavor to developing an integrated view of anthropology that embraces applied work. The constraints result from the conditions under which consultancy work is undertaken and the overall contexts of power that define these conditions. This entry discusses a number of issues that emerge from the above observations, giving examples of work that has been done.
