Summary

The Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture (STRICTA) provides, by means of a six-item checklist, guidance for authors reporting clinical trials involving acupuncture. STRICTA is aimed primarily at authors but may also be used by peer and systematic reviewers when they appraise trial designs and reports, in order to make more informed judgments on the quality and style of acupuncture provided within trials. The impetus for developing the STRICTA reporting guidelines came from a group of acupuncture researchers who met in Exeter University, United Kingdom, in 2001. The current version of STRICTA comprises a checklist with 6 items broken out into 17 subitems. The author conducted two studies that addressed the question of the effectiveness of STRICTA. The primary focus in the short term is to complete the publication program of the revised STRICTA guideline.
