Summary

For centuries, Mexico has been a most vivid reflection of the Latin-American legal blend, a continental mix of indigenous, colonial, and republican regulatory traditions. Although notably a civil law system, no one should be surprised at finding ancient Mesoamerican roots clashing or coexisting with contemporary Hispanic and Anglo-American influences in this country. Accordingly, as in its libel history, the Mexican legal heritage is complex and rich. The right to privacy, introduced in the mid to late 1800s, is largely a modern, gradual, and foreign import.
