In this chapter we describe generic therapeutic competencies related to professional practice that are relevant to cognitive behavioral therapy for pediatric anxiety and depression. Specifically, these competencies include possession of an open attitude toward psychotherapy research and the ability to use this research to inform practice; knowledge of and ability to operate within professional, ethical, and legal codes of conduct; and ability to actively participate in supervision. We provide guidance to readers on these issues based on existing empirical research and our experience as clinicians.
