This chapter focuses on sport and exercise among those who are obese. It addresses the challenges of participation and then, based on the benefits, examines ways to increase physical activity (PA) in obese people. It is clear that PA provides significant physical and psychological health benefits. To achieve health benefits, PA recommendations suggest an accumulation of at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity PA on most, preferably all, days of the week. The chapter focuses on PA participation among overweight and obese adults for health benefits, rather than PA specifically for weight loss. For overweight individuals, particularly those experiencing additional comorbidities, participating in regular PA can be a challenging task, at least in the initial stages of increasing one's PA level. Numerous interventions, including structured, pre-determined programs and psychological interventions grounded in theory, have been developed with the aim of promoting PA participation in people who are overweight or obese.
