Abstract

A clinical institution is always in search of new technology and of new equipment. These purchases can wreck operating budgets if mishandled. The need for each purchase must be well understood, and the total costs, including all installation and operating costs, must be considered. A key element is the negotiation process between the hospital's acquisition committee and the vendor.
