Abstract

Electrophoresis, which is the motion of charged colloidal particles in an electrolyte solution under an applied electric field, provides us with fundamental information on the surface potential and the surface charge density of the particles. Approximate analytic expressions for the electrophoretic mobility of various types of particles including particles with no surface structures and those with surface structures such as biological cells are given.
