Abstract

Media activism can be understood in three different ways, moving from broad to narrower interpretations: activism through the media, activism in the media, and activism about the media. Today, media activism is undergoing a profound change, especially concerning activism through the media and, in particular, the production and diffusion of media contents. Overall, in times in which social movements entangle deeply with all kinds of media, scholars wonder how we should interpret media activism today. The permeable boundaries of media activism in contemporary societies require a redefinition of the very concept of media activism.
