Abstract

Among the atypical variants of Familial benign chronic pemphigus (FBCP) is the genital verrucoid variety. This condition is often misdiagnosed as condyloma accuminata. We present a case of a genital verrucoid variant of Hailey-Hailey disease that was initially mistaken for condyloma accuminata. Multiple asymptomatic white bands in more than one fingernail were the first clue in diagnosing the condition, which was confirmed histopathologically. This nail marker may antedate any other cutaneous manifestation of FBCP. Nail examination for longitudinal leukonychia of fingernails might be of help in diagnosing atypical cases of Hailey-Hailey disease.
