Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Prize

First published: 06 September 2006

The Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics offers an annual prize for the best paper published in the journal during each calendar year. The editors are very pleased to announce that the 2005 winner is J. Griffin, N. Fletcher, R. Clemence, S. Blanchflower and D.J. Brayden, ‘Selamectin is a potent substrate and inhibitor of human and canine P-glycoprotein’ (Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics28: 257–265). The prize consists of a medal struck by Blackwell Publishing and will be presented to the authors of the paper at an appropriate veterinary pharmacology scientific conference. The winning paper of this year presents data on the transport of the antiparasitic agents, ivermectin, selamectin and moxidectin in human intestinal epithelial cell monolayers (Caco-2) and canine peripheral blood lymphocytes. The data suggest that ivermectin and selamectin are potent P-gp substrates, while moxidectin is a weak substrate. Congratulations to a deserving team of scientists.
