Upcoming Acta Physiologica Award of US$ 100,000.00
In March we editors and the board of the Scandinavian Physiological Society are thrilled to nominate the winners of our Acta Physiologica Award. As before, the prizewinners will be congratulated at the Europhysiology Meeting.
The Acta Physiologica Award1 is probably the highest sum awarded to scientific articles and much scrutiny goes into shaping a short list. A first measure for performance are bibliometric indexes, but not only. Here the articles in lead change rapidly, thus, the following articles are only a snapshot of what may appear on a short list. As for last time, several many more articles were added to the list of potential awardees. We collect bibliometric data well into March 2020 to allow for an accurate picture. Citations to articles from 2018 are weighted more than those appearing the year before, as the window for referencing these manuscripts is narrower. More than 20 articles have received double-digit citations so far, many in the field of renal physiology.2, 3 One of these renal physiology manuscripts,4 however, does not qualify for the prize, as one author is also an editor for the journal. Cardiovascular manuscripts are also well represented on the potential list,5-7 but Acta Physiologica is increasingly publishing well received articles in many more fields, such as metabolism,8 circadian rhythms,5 exercise9 and neurophysiology.10, 11
Manuscripts from 2018 indicate how much attention very young manuscripts are receiving.8, 9, 12-14 Listed here are less than half of the original articles receiving double-digit citations. We boil down a great amount of articles to create a short list. Exhaustive inspection of these short-listed articles will bring up the most worthy. We are already excited about this event. Of course, we cross our fingers for all authors of Acta Physiologica. Thank you for your submissions!
