Graphical Abstract

A facile and controlled route to fabricate multilayered gold nanoshells (MLGSs) with tunable dimensions, excellent uniformity, and well-defined core-shell nanostructures is reported by Y. Li, J. Shi, and co-workers on page 77. It is demonstrated experimentally that MLGSs possess higher photothermal efficiency than conventional gold nanoshells, and significantly improved Raman stability as SERS substrates under photothermal conditions.
