Graphical Abstract
Cationic graft copolymers containing biodegradable segments are promising candidates as gene delivery systems. In the study on page 2168 by Leon Perez and colleagues, the grafting of low-molecular-weight poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) to poly(esterco-carbonate) backbones was achieved through two different approaches: grafting to and grafting from. The most versatile strategy for attaining a set of materials with a tailored structure and composition was grafting from, which in turn allowed for highlighting relationships between properties and copolymers' composition.
