Abstract

We propose a computational model for the numerical analysis of the dynamic interaction between a single excavation tool and the surrounding soil. An incremental non-linear (hypoplastic) constitutive model is employed to capture the complex response of soft soils. Large displacements and deformations are handled by an Updated Lagrangian formulation, the particle finite element method (PFEM). (© 2016 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
