Abstract

We propose a simple and compact all-optical on–off switch working at 10 Gb/s. The operation of the switch is based on four-wave mixing in only 1.9 m of bismuth-based highly nonlinear fiber. The proposed switch has a fast response time, high ON/OFF switching ratio, and potential to work beyond 10 Gb/s. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
