Dear Authors and Readers,

With this issue, the journal Mathematische Nachrichten presents itself with a new Editorial Team. After nearly 20 years of Reinhard Mennicken's leadership as Editor-in-Chief, a new structure has now been set up to continue the current success and to strengthen the journal for future developments. Starting in 2012, a team of four new Editors-in-Chief will take over the strategic and mathematical responsibility for this journal, namely Robert Denk (Konstanz/Germany), Klaus Hulek (Hannover/Germany), Frédéric Klopp (Paris/France) and Ben Andrews (Canberra/Australia). Reinhard Mennicken will continue to serve our journal as Managing Editor, thus supporting us as new Editors-in-Chief. Furthermore, the journal will be supported by a new Board of Associate Editors that is composed of members of the previous Editorial Board and Advisory Board, but also of new members.

Reinhard Mennicken has served this journal as Editor-in-Chief with outstanding enthusiasm, mathematical endurance, editorial skill and benevolent authority. He started his work for Mathematische Nachrichten during the times of major change in the early 1990s and managed to safely guide the journal into the 21st century. Thanks to his experience the journal has gained recognition as an international high quality mathematical journal. We are glad that he continues to serve Mathematische Nachrichten as Managing Editor, thus helping us to maintain our tradition of top quality mathematical publishing.

We will share the responsibilities for the journal and also aim at opening Mathematische Nachrichten to new fields. Furthermore, it is our common goal to shorten the publication times and to increase the quality and attractiveness of our articles by ensuring a very strict manuscript selection. Thus, a speedy reduction of the manuscript backlog is envisaged for this year.

The restructuring of editorship also goes along with some changes in the handling of the manuscripts. In order to increase efficiency and to make the evaluation process more transparent we have decided that from now on all manuscripts must be submitted via the online manuscript tool ScholarOne Manuscript.

As it is the beginning of the year, we would also like to inform you about two special issues. The first one on “Topics in Function Spaces, Differential Operators, Harmonic and Fractal Analysis” is dedicated to Hans Triebel (Jena/Germany) on the occasion of his 75th birthday. For experts in the fields of Function Spaces and Partial Differential Equations this special issue will surely be a highlight. A second special issue on “Topics in Operator Theory, Spectral Analysis, Differential Equations, and Mathematical Physics” will be published in honor of Eduard R. Tsekanovskii (Lewiston/USA) on the occasion of his 70th birthday. This issue will contain outstanding contributions of world renowned mathematical analysts and physicists. Both issues are planned to appear in the first half of 2012.

Finally, we would like to thank you, as author, reviewer or reader, for your faithfulness to our journal, and hope for your support in the future. Enjoy reading Mathematische Nachrichten!

With best wishes for the New Year 2012,
