The photophysical and electrochemical properties of a family of oligothiophene derivatives in solution were studied. It was found that the cyano and the vinyl group could increase fluorescence yield in solution, while the formyl and carboxyl group could decrease energy gap. With increasing the chain length of thiophene ring, the oxidation potential could be decreased.
