Abstract
TfOH-catalyzed condensation of catechol (I) with trifluoroacetophenones (II) affords previously unreported phenolic polyphenylalkane derivatives (III), while similar reactions of resorcinol and hydroquinone furnish the corresponding novel hydroxy-substituted xanthene derivatives (V) and (VII), respectively.
