Abstract

Sulfinylnitriles, e.g. (I), (XII), (XV) or (XVII), smoothly undergo sulfinyl—metal exchange with Grignard reagents, organolithium or lithium zincate reagents to generate the corresponding α-metallated nitriles, which are trapped with various electrophiles.
