Abstract

The multicomponent cyclocondensation of benzil with aromatic aldehydes, an amine and ammonium acetate (or ammonium acetate alone) is efficiently catalyzed by SiO2-supported Wells—Dawson heteropolyacid to give the polysubstituted imidazole derivatives (IV) and (VI) in high yields.
